The role of social media: what the patients want before they choose a doctor
Future patients are looking for certain information online before they choose a doctor. Many people find social media to be a very trustworthy source of information, since it comes from real people that they know. Human nature has an effect on what kind of information about treatments that people will seek out. In addition to objective information, future patients also look for people with relevant treatment experience. Patients base their choice of a surgeon on reviews they view as authentic.
Web analytics let us visualize visitor behavior across a website. What do people search for on a website? What questions do people ask in our forums most often? What kind of information do patients consider helpful? To what extent do cultural differences ffect patient preferences regarding types of information?
Personal testimonies are not scientific evidence, but patients look for them. Reviews from patients and answers from experts help future patients to form realistic expectations.
Doctors should make it possible for patients to share their experience and use social media as communication channels.
