Objectives: After the presentation, attendees should understand the definition of "clean" beauty, and how that interpretation may affect the skin care regimens they recommend for patients.
Introduction: Presently, there is not a standard definition of clean beauty. Patients are exposed to many products via social media, beauty blogs, online publications, and company websites. Because there is not regulatory body that governs what ingredients are considered "clean," many claims regarding available products are not substantiated.
Materials / method: Personal research and almost 30 years of practicing dermatology with a strong focus on skin care and photoprotection.
Results: Not applicable to this presentation
Conclusion: It is essential to have an understanding of what patients are reading in order to have a meaningful discussion regarding "clean" beauty and other trends. As physicians, it is our responsibility to educate our patients and to provide options that are effective and, ideally, not in conflict with a patient's personal preferences.
