Objectives: Learn the pros and cons about threading for the nose. Make judgment about to do or not to do nasal threading base on good assessment.
Introduction: It is well known that facial skeletal structures differ between Asians and Caucasians. In Asians, a wider face with flatter facial features, such as a flat nose or a short chin, are quite common. This makes nose reshaping a highly demanded procedure in Asian patients.
Materials / method: While multiple surgical procedures for nose reshaping and augmentation are available, nonsurgical nose reshaping options such as filler injections has seen a surge in popularity in the last 15 years. Nasal threading is another relatively novel technique, with increased popularity in the last 8 to 10 years.
Results: Using threads for nasal reshaping offers its own advantages and disadvantages over fillers. For example, there are increasing reports in literature of vascular occlusion, a possible side effect of filler injection, which may result in devastating sequelae such as filler-induced blindness. A recent publication in 2019 indicates the nasal area as the most high-risk area for blindness in facial injections. Use of threads may greatly reduce or eliminate this risk. Conclusion: In this talk, I will present the pros and cons of nasal threading, and offer my conclusion for the timing and indications of this technique.
