Objectives: The goal of this presentation is to add an additional angle of view to plastic surgeons performing facial aesthetic procedures taking evolutionary deeper located needs into account - choosing a better surgical plan and approach to obtain distinct optimal results.
Introduction: Great emphasis has been paid in the field of facial aesthetic plastic surgery to define the ideal beauty, ideal proportions, measurements and symmetry. Many scientific studies have emphasized anatomical changes, different analyses, and surgical techniques. Although important, deeper anchored needs by evolution, like non-verbal communication of perceived emotions and sexual attractiveness have been more or less neglected.
Materials / method: The 3 brain theory by Paul MacLean is often successfully applied by the marketing industry addressing evolutionary deeper located needs. Addressing evolutionary needs in facial aesthetic surgery that are located in the limbic and reptilian brain may not have been in the focus in facial surgery as it should.
Conclusion: Considering and implementing evolutionary deeper located needs into the surgical plan and approach will allow better, and distinct results.
