Dr Rui AVELAR

Dr. Avelar received his medical degree from the University of Toronto and went on to further training accreditation in Sports Medicine from the Canadian Academy of Sports Medicine. Along with having a private practice in Vancouver for 20 years, he was a consultant for a number of Canadian National Teams and the team physician for the Vancouver Canucks (NHL franchise) for over 10 years. 

He began his business career as a Financial Analyst, covering the Medtech and Biotechnology sector. He then spent 10 years at Angiotech Pharmaceuticals Inc., initially as the VP of Investor Relations, then the Chief Medical Officer, in charge multiple departments globally.   

In 2011 he became the Chief Medical Officer for Allergan Medical, during his tenure he was in charge of Clinical Development, Clinical Operations, Safety, Medical Writing, Statistics and Regulatory globally. Joining Evolus in 2014, he is the Chief Medical Officer and Head of Research and Development for the company.   

His experience covers device, pharmaceuticals, drug-device combinations and biologics.
