Objectives: overview of the local treatment by laser& EBD to reduce or to cure local hyperhidrosis
Introduction: Hyperhidrosis is a potential cause of severe physical and psychological distress, interfering in activities of daily living.
Surgical treatment with sympathectomy was successfully performed for hyperhidrosis in the early part of the 20th century, with various modifications of the technique over the past 100 years.
Topical aluminium salt antiperspirants, anticholinergic medications, iontophoresis and botulinum toxin introduced less invasive ways to manage this condition.
Materials / method: But new physical therapeutics as HIFU, Radiofrequency, Laser can be discussed to treat this distressing condition
1/ Video-assisted thoracoscopic sympathectomy was introduced in the 1990s and is the procedure of choice but with the cohort of side effects
2/ Excision or curettage of sweat glands from the underside of the axillary skin have also been used for localised axillary hyperhidrosis with good success
3/ endo and exo laser with few options of wavelengths
4/ radiofrequency option : endo by canula or exo by microneedle
5/ HIFU
6 / Microwawe with the best ratio efficienty/facility
Results: These different therapeutic options can make the difference with the current leader that is the toxin. But for where, for who ,and when ? A short overwiew could help you to make the right choice at the right place.
Conclusion: Hyperhidrosis is a common pathology but with more varied management than one might think. A discussion around physical and local therapies can be proposed and thus optimize the devices that dermatologists already have available in their centre.
