Professor Steinsträßer is a German specialist in plastic and aesthetic surgery with additional qualifications in hand surgery and intensive care medicine. He practises in Oldenburg and leads plastic, reconstructive and aesthetic surgery and hand surgery at St. Anna Klinik, Löningen.

Clinical expertise includes breast augmentation with implants or autologous fat, breast lift and reduction, gynecomastia surgery and breast reconstruction; liposuction for lipedema (lipoedema), abdominoplasty, arm and thigh lifts, and labiaplasty; blepharoplasty, face and neck lift, otoplasty and fat transfer. Further areas include skin and soft-tissue tumour surgery, scar revision and hand surgery, including carpal tunnel syndrome, Dupuytren’s disease and trigger finger.

Non-surgical options include botulinum toxin, hyaluronic acid fillers, skinboosters, microneedling, PRP, EMFACE and EMSCULPT NEO.

After medical studies in Hamburg and a research fellowship at the University of Michigan (1999–2001), he trained at Ruhr University Bochum, qualifying as a specialist in 2005 and completing his habilitation in 2006. He was appointed to a DFG-funded Heisenberg Professorship in Molecular Oncology and Wound Healing in 2009 and held the Chair of Plastic Surgery at European Medical School Oldenburg from 2013 to 2015.

His research covers wound healing, innate immunity, regenerative approaches and soft-tissue sarcoma. He has contributed to over 200 scientific publications, received the 2009 von Langenbeck Research Award and founded the European Plastic Surgery Research Council (EPSRC) in 2009. He is a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons; affiliations include ASPS, AAPS, DGPRÄC and EURAPS.
