Dermatological treatment using plant based makeup as a vehicle to repair, photoprotect, antioxidant and antiglycative for the skin
Objectives: The study aims to present an innovative and sustainable plant based vehicle for the skin in makeup form to treat and repair the skin against exposome effects, UVA, UVB radiation, visible light and blue light, DNA protection, antiglycative and collagen booster.
Introduction: Decorative cosmetic as makeup are used for application and coverage of skin defects, resulting in improved appearance as well as psychological effects such as increased self-confidence. Makeup usually contains heavy metals and endocrine disruptors that cause environmental pollution, skin irritation and contact dermatitis and normally can be not use for pregnant and sensitive skins. Pigments from plants in form of makeup are very innovative with strong antioxidant activities because contains flavonoids, tannins, polyphenols, anthocyanins that contains natural photoprotection.
Materials / method: It was developed a foundation in powder using natural pigments
B. excelsa seed powder, D. alata shell powder, O. sativa powder and R.sativus.It was evaluated the safety of the formulation using RIPT (Human Repeat Insult Patch Test) method, cytotoxicity and phototoxicity evaluation in vitro using cell cultures.To evaluate the efficacy of the formulation we used the follow methods:
DNA protection by ultra violet radiation using DNA damages detection.
SPF(Sun Protection Factor) in vivo using methodology ISO 24444.
UVA protective factor using Colipa method.
Collagen synthesis analysis.
Results: According to the results. The plant based foundation in powder is very safety and also can be considered hypoallergenic. By the SPF in vivo, the formulation can provide SPF 30 and UVA 21. The analysis of protection against blue and visible light showed that this foundation is very effective and the product present absorption of 74,1% from 400 nm until 800 nm (visible light) and 80,7% between 400 nm and 500 nm (blue light). The formulation stimulates collagen in 130,38% ± 0,1% in concentration of 1mg/ml.
Conclusion: In conclusion this makeup is a very innovative formulation to treat the skin with safety and efficacy. By the results this new technology can be used to improve the results of the dermatological procedures and protect the skin against exposomes, UVB, UVA, blue and visible light besides to improve collagen proliferation.
