Abstract

Objectives: The main objective of this lecture is to review the sonographic aspects of the main thread complications in order to help physicians choose the best treatment. Introduction: The popularity of threads lifts has been rising in the last few years. The most popular threads are polydioxanone (PDO), polycaprolactone, and poly-L-lactic (PLA). Although threads have been applied for more than 30 years with relatively few complications, the lack of experience and skills of those who are starting to apply the threads are probably responsible for a relatively increase in the rate of complications. Ultrasound is a noninvasive, dynamic technique, sensitive and accurate for skin examination, which can help locate the threads and study its complications. Materials / method: Ultrasonographic images of thread lifts and its complications where compiled and reviewed retrospectively by the authors. Results: The sonographic aspect of thread complications such as dimpling, abscess, inflammation, misplacement, extrusion and filler interaction were systematically reviewed and described by the authors as a series of cases. Conclusion: Ultrasound is of utmost importance to help physicians locate the thread lifts and recognize its possible complications to help treating them.
