Objectives: There are possiblities of modern crosslinking of HA products without BDDE, which can influence human health after the use over decades. A new Key-Lock system of HA crosslinkage will be described and first study data in the use for Lip augmentation, NLF and Cheek augmentation will be shared
Introduction: The need to reduce the amount of BDDE in crosslinked HA is known for many years. Looking into the future use of HA we are expecting a use over decades in human beings, which could lead to health issues. So for an aesthetic physician using HA products routinely a product with no BDDE crosslinking is preferred in the long term use in our patients
Materials / method: In 3 different research centers a prospective study with a new HA formulation, crosslinked with no BDDE, but a key-lock system, was performed for the safety and efficacy for lip augmentation, NLF Augmentation and cheek enhancement. The amount of HA varied from 4 mg/ml (Lipaugmentation ) 6 mg /ml (NLF augmentation) 8 mg /ml (cheek enhancement). The followup was performed every 3 month until 12 month for the NLF and cheek group and 18 month for the lip augmentation group
Results: All three HA formulations showed good results with no safety issues over the study period. Despite the low amount of HA in all 3 formulations the results lasted longer as exspected.
Conclusion: The new KEY-LOCK crosslinking system for HA filler is a safe alternative to all BDDE crosslinked HA filler
