Objectives: Despite its seemingly low complexity, achieving excellent results demands a profound understanding of the anatomical and functional aspects of facial muscles
Introduction: Botulinum toxin injection stands as the most prevalent cosmetic procedure in numerous countries, with a significant increase in its adoption among various professionals, including non-physicians, in recent years. This widespread use has, unfortunately, led to a rise in complications and unfavorable outcomes associated with botulinum toxin.
Materials / method: This lecture aims to provide a comprehensive review of these aspects to prevent major complications associated with botulinum toxin, such as eyelid ptosis, eyebrow ptosis (pseudoptosis), eyelid bag pseudohernia, upper lip ptosis, asymmetrical smile, and unsightly results.
Results: Furthermore, the use of the toxin, while respecting its functional aspects and evaluating its long-term effects, contributes to achieving more natural and better outcomes.
Conclusion: Mastering the appropriate use of botulinum toxin remains a challenge, requiring the practitioner to individualize treatment, making the technique a true art.
