Objectives: to introduce a new approach to individual photoprotection with or without sunscreens
Introduction: A subject does not know how much time he/she can remain under the sun before burning or before achieving the maximal vit D yield or before obtaining the maximal therapeutic effect on his/ her psoriasis, vitiligo or other dermatoses any or any other biological effect of the sun. We have developed a satellite-based app that can inform the patient real time of the burning effect of the sun
Materials / method: Together with SI health, Oxford, UK we have developed a new technology that can geo localize your mobile, calculate the sun irradiance on your skin with the integration of solar flux and metereological data from the satellites. The data of irradiance are then used to calculate real time the optimal duration of sun exposure that is needed to reach safely the effective doses for each biological effect on the skin with a known activity spectrum, e.g. burning, vitamin D production
Results: The satellite-based technology has been validated with comparison with the continuous measurement of solar irraciadiance at ground level with environmental radiometers that were placed in Oxford (UK), Brescia (Italy) and Sao Paulo (Brasil). The concordance was very good
Conclusion: We will present the practical advantages of an app that can give you real time the optimal duration of sun exposure to achieve safely the beneficial effects of the skin. Therefore you can achieve the maximal vit D load or optimize the improvement of a given skin disorder without burning. The system can also calculate the times of exposure after the application of a sunscreen after that you know the SPF and the amount of product that you have applied on the skin
