WHAT´S NEW IN MEDICAL THERAPY OF ALOPECIA

During this lecture we will focus on the most important new medical therapies in different hair disorders:
a) Oral minoxidil for androgenetic alopecia (doses between 0.5-1 mg daily in females and between 2.5-5 mg daily in males).
b) Low dose oral dutasteride for androgenetic alopecia.
c) JAK inhibitors for alopecia areata.
d) Oral pulses of dexamethasone for extensive alopecia areata.
e) Platelet rich plasma for lichen planopilaris.

Objectives: SYNTHETIC HAIR IMPLANTS
In the field of hair restoration, synthetic hair implants (SHI) have progressively become a satisfactory solution in some particular cases.
To be considered an effective methodology, SHI must not only be biocompatible but also have immediate and visibly aesthetic results.
The duration of SHI is variable.

Introduction: The complications of SHI, such as folliculitis, seborrheic dermatitis and scar pitting follicular seborrheic deposit, are well-documented. In most cases, these complications can be preventable or treatable.
Based on the results of our studies about two different kinds of SHI, we are able to give some useful comments but it will be necessary to carry out further clinical objective evaluation.

Materials / method: Conclusion: Synthetic hairs are of variable reliability, durability, and tolerance depending on the procedure selected. The indications for this treatment seem to be contraindications to surgical techniques using the patient's own hair, which alone guarantees a definitive and unconstrained result.

Results: SCALP MICROPIGMENTATION
Scalp micropigmentation (SMP) is a semi-permanent tattoo procedure that lasts in many cases at least five years and can be repeated.
SMP can be indicated to patients who do not have enough hair to be covered with hair transplant and those whose donor area is not dense enough. SMP can also help to conceal scars of different origins and make them hardly detectable.

Conclusion: SMP mimics hair follicles directly on the scalp, thus creating the illusion of hair texture and fullness. This can be performed both on long hair or a shaved scalp.
To patients whose donor area is too small, we suggest combining hair transplant with SMP in order to give their scalp a fuller aspect.
Conclusion:
Scalp micropigmentation (with or without hair transplant surgery) provides a cosmetically effective solution for patients suffering from alopecia. SMP procedure must be done by well-trained technicians.

Objectives: Artificial Intelligence means the theory and development of computer systems able to perform tasks normally requiring human intelligence, such as visual perception, speech recognition, decision-making, and translation between languages. Here we are discussing the use of Robotic hair transplant in the field of Aesthetic surgery.

Introduction: When a hair transplant surgeon considers which hairs to use for transplants and how best to transplant them for a natural look, he (or she) uses a range of instincts and training and off course experience to make those decisions. He also needs to a good knowledge about which hairs are proven to transplant the best, about how to analysis the shape of a patient’s head and hair growth patterns so as to ensure the transplanted sections look natural.What if all these things are trained and inputted into a machine ,that would be ideal as we would be looking at the ideal result.

Materials / method: These are all the things a machine can be trained to do and what we have these days to help us in hair transplant. It also can work 24/7 unlike us without fatigue and it can also be remotely controlled to recommend what’s best in case it’s a novale user. Invariably many aspects of medical science will be with the help of Artificial Intelligence where there is consistency in treatment globally as well as less chances for error. We present our observation working on the only true Robot for hair transplant present in the world for last 4 years, evolving every year towards perfection.

Results: Although we are still yet to achieve that perfection in hair transplant ,its taking progress leaps and bounds and the day won’t be far when sitting at our office we can get the robots to do our procedure upon our instructions and with the help of data collected all of us can utilise the expertise at our perusal.

Conclusion: Offcourse any technology has its limitation, And it also needs to be borne in mind that when it comes to health applications, even the most intelligent robotic systems should only ever be considered a partner, never a total replacement. AI at present exist for the betterment of patient treatment and results and physician assistance,not to replace it as of now,although one can never be sure in the future!
