Objectives: 1. Understand the different echogenic terms
2. Understand the ultrasound appearance of fillers
3. Understand the ultrasound appearance filler complications
4. How ultrasound guidance is used to treat filler complications

Introduction: Ultrasound is invaluable in visualizing anatomy and fillers. When a patient presents with filler complications, ultrasound can assist in determining filler composition and location. When treatment is needed, ultrasound guided injections of hyaluronidase or other medications can ensure exact placement.

Materials / method: Dr. Weiner demonstrates several cases of filler complications and treatment.

Results: Often filler nodules become encapsulated. Tradition methods without ultrasound can be futile because the capsule prevents penetration of the medication/hyaluronidase.

Conclusion: Ultrasound improves the diagnostic capabilities of the injector when there is a filler complication. Location and composition of the filler is determined using ultrasound. Guided injections are often necessary to ensure proper placement of the hyaluronidase/medication and is often necessary to enable penetration of the capsule that forms around filler nodules.
