Objectives: The author is a dermatologist, botulinum toxin injector and filler
for over 20 years, and Cosmiatry preceptor at the Dermatology residency of the SBD (Brazilian Society of Dermatology). Her studies on psychology of the emotions and neuroscience apllied to cosmiatry lead to the objective of this work, that is to demonstrate a new technique based on Neuroscience and explain how lines and shapes impact "halo effect "
and neural mechanisms of decision making.
Introduction: Visagism is a concept that was
initially developed by Fernand Aubry, and became known as a set of techniques that seek beauty through the harmonization of
haircuts, makeup, and accessories. In 2002, Philip Hallawell, an internationally renowned visual artist, painter, designer and
visual educator, through studies in visual language, psychology and neuroscience, created a new concept that revolutionized
visagism, with the IMAGE ID theory.
Materials / method: Accordind to Image Theory , everything in the universe, including and especially the human face, has a visual identity and communicates emotional messages with this identity, besides expressing its own personality through this visual identity. Hallawell also created the theory of archetypal symbols and their impact on the limbic system and emotions
even before the recognition of images by the visual cortex.
Results: Thus, Hallawell created integrated visagism, with the Philip
Hallawell method, whose goal is to create a personalized image that reflects the individual's personality, with its most
admirable characteristics. According to Hallawell, visagism is the art of revealing the best of a human being's identity, with
harmony and aesthetics.
Conclusion: The author applies the Philip Hallawell method in his holistic approach to evaluating and planning the
application of botulinum toxin and explains, in this lecture, the meanings of the various eyebrow shapes and their respective
"halo effect," or unconscious cognitive biases, and unravels the neuronal mechanisms and the psycho-social impact of this new
approach, demonstrating authorial techniques that make it possible to create a personalized image with botulinum toxin, so that
the patient reflects in his face the essence of his personality with naturality, elegance and autenticity.
