Objectives: Correlate the Anatomical knowledge of the Gluteus Major Muscle, in relation to the Radiological Studies of choice today, mainly Magnetic Nuclear Resonance
Introduction: One of the Technique options for Gluteal Augmentation with implants is precisely the Intramuscular Technique of Gluteus Maximus, described by Drs Vergara, Gonzalez and Mendieta from time to time.
In the preoperative analysis, often empirical regarding the dimensions of said muscle, it is necessary to have more specific parameters in order to dissect and select the appropriate implant.
Materials / method: Female and male patients were evaluated, in order to evaluate by Nuclear Magnetic Resonance, the dimensions of the Gluteus Major Muscle, whether they are thickness, length and width, as well as the thickness of adipose tissue above it.
Results: Paradoxically, in the population studied radiologically, the dimensions of the musc. gluteus maximus, did not correlate with the publications about anatomy, specifically with regard to its thickness.
Conclusion: It is of crucial importance, prior to deciding on a surgical procedure that involves the gluteus maximus muscle, to carry out a detailed radiological study, in order to have more precise information about it, for the benefit of the surgical technique to be carried out that involves it.
