Objectives: The vitiligo dermoscopy score, with its standardized approach and scoring system, improves the diagnostic process and holds significant implications for clinical practice in vitiligo. It enhances objectivity, facilitates research comparability and serves as a predictive prognostic tool for activity of vitiligo.
Introduction: Scoring in vitiligo and assessing vitiligo activity are crucial for therapeutic decision-making and monitoring the progression of the disease. Various clinical scoring systems have been developed to assess vitiligo activity such as VASI score.
Materials / method: Dermoscopy scores are numerical or categorical assessments assigned to specific features observed during dermoscopic examination of vitiligo patches.
Results: Vitiligo Stability Score with six dermatoscopic parameters, namely, border, pigment network, perilesional hyperpigmentation, perifollicular pigmentation, satellite lesions, and micro-Koebner phenomenon (acronym: BPLeFoSK) will be presented. There are also dermoscopic scores evaluating vitiligo cases as stable, progressive or repigmenting in response to treatment with qualitative dermoscopic features.
Conclusion: As technology and research continue to advance and with the incorporation of AI, dermoscopy and scoring systems will likely play an increasingly central role in the care of individuals with vitiligo.
