How to manage patient's expectations
Introduction: Expectation is defined as the desire to achieve certain things, look in a certain way or behave in a particular way. Expectations can have a positive or a negative impact on patient's thoughts, feelings or behaviour.
In this study, we explore the origins of expectations, what drives patients to place expectations on themselves, the importance of managing expectations, as well as useful tips on how to manage expectations in every patient who seeks a non-surgical buttock augmentation. These tips can also be applied to any surgical or non-surgical cosmetic procedure.
Materials / method: We reviewed the literature and we obtained several useful steps required to effectively manage patient expectations and reduce the risk of revision procedures and legal claims.
Results: During a consultation, it is crucial to follow a number of very useful steps, that will help the patient understand the nature of the procedure, the emotional aspects of it, and obtain a very clear understanding of the potential outcome.
Conclusion: Patient expectations vary between individuals and between different cultures. It is very important to follow a systematic and strategic approach involving key factors, such as individual variability in results, recovery process and limitations of the procedure.
It is crucial to encourage an open dialogue to ensure that patients are well-informed before making decisions about their buttock augmentation journey.
