Objectives: Clinical trials showed the efficacy of several biologic drugs, antibiotics, laser light device. Novel therapeutic options seem to be promising, but dermatologists will have to evaluate their effectiveness and safety in daily clinical practice.

Introduction: Since 1996, lasers and IPL have been used for hair removal mostly for cosmetic reasons. However, in dermatology hair removal has also been used for the treatment of diseases, such as hirsutism, hypertricosis, and for hair-bearing skin grafts. Hidradenits Suppurativa (HS) is a chronic disabling disorder, with exacerbations, recurrence, and progression despite medical and extensive surgical treatment. Histologic studies have suggested that HS is a disorder of the terminal follicular epithelium with follicular hyperkeratosis and obstruction acting as an early event in the pathogenesis of HS.

Introduction: Oral isotretinoin is enjoying new, previously unthinkable revitalization of its role in helping patients improving many skin conditions thanks to significant dose reduction and prescription strategies

Conclusion: Since its first synthesis in 1955, 13-cis-retinoic acid (Ro-4-3780), universally known as Isotretinoin, the enormous potential of this fat-soluble synthetic retinoid was appreciated by the scientific community. Low dose prescriptions have proven extremely effective in many dermatologic indications reducing side-effects to an absolute minimum and expanding the willingness of patients to accept this therapeutic proposal.
