Objectives: 1. To assess the mechanism of action of liquid PCL when administered into the skin.
2. To determine the most effective and safe injection techniques for liquid PCL application.
3. To establish optimal protocols for maintaining long-lasting skin rejuvenation results.
4. To evaluate the long-term safety profile of liquid PCL following subdermal injection.
Introduction: The medical aesthetics field is experiencing a shift in focus from volume replacement to biostimulation. In line with this trend, various biostimulators have gained prominence for their ability to rejuvenate the skin while enhancing facial contours. PCL is widely recognized as one of the most potent biostimulators, with a long history of use in the medical field. The development of liquid PCL through innovative technology has overcome these limitations, transforming PCL into a safe and effective biostimulator with powerful regenerative capabilities.
Materials / method: Eleven participants received one or two treatment sessions at three-month intervals. Each session involved the injection of liquid PCL (1 to 3 ml per session) using a 25-gauge blunt cannula and a gentle fanning technique, targeting the immediate subdermal plane. The primary treatment areas focused on the midface. Skin roughness and pore size were measured using Antera 3D imaging and facial skin tightening effects were evaluated using the Morpheus 3D system at baseline and post-treatment.
Results: Liquid PCL injections have demonstrated significant improvements in overall skin texture of the upper and mid-face, including a reduction in pore size and enhanced skin radiance. Notably, a reduction in the alar-tragus length was observed in most subjects, indicating improved skin tightening that contributes to a smaller, more contoured facial appearance. The rejuvenation and tightening effects of the skin were sustained for up to six months following the injections. The procedure was well-tolerated, with minor adverse events, such as temporary edema, reported in only one patient.
Conclusion: 1. Liquid PCL effectively delivers long-term improvements in skin quality and tightening in the upper and mid-face.
2. Liquid PCL offers sustained neocollagenesis and tissue remodeling while minimizing the risk of nodules or granuloma formation.
3. Optimized injection techniques with liquid PCL enable noticeable 3D skin rejuvenation from within, achieving results without volumizing effects, thereby avoiding mid-face overfilling.
