Objectives: In this study, we aimed that; as a non-surgical treatment method, barbed COG threads can use for tightening and lifting of vaginal mucosa for the treatments of sexual disorders and the stress urinary incontinence (SUI) problems of women. We studied intravaginal COG thread applications for these two problems in over 52 reproductive women and found them successfully with the acceptable results.
Introduction: Vaginal laxity is one of the common causes of female sexual disorders and stress urinary incontinence is the most important problem that effects the life confort of women especially after the childbirth. Nowadays, most of the treatments for both problems are surgical. Although the laser and RF are using for both problem as non-surgical procedures, but they couldn’t find a real place in the current treatment systems yet. As another non-surgical way, can COG threads use intravaginally for vaginal tightening and treatment of SUI ?
Materials / method: We chose the subjects from the patients who applied to our clinic for sexual pleasure deficiency only related to vaginal relaxation or mild SUI. Under the local or sedation anesthesia, we inserted the threads into the vaginal mucosa by our new techniques, VTT-L® (Vaginal Thread Tightening-Longitudinal), VTT-C® (Vaginal Thread Tightening-Circular) and PuTL® (PeriUrethral Thread Lifting). We used validiated FSFI (Female Sexual Function Index) and 5 Points Likert Scale for evaluation of vaginal tightening and used urinary diary for the evaluation of SUI.
Results: We determined that vaginal COG applications tighten the vagina and lift the urethra by mucosal thickening with biological and mechanical effects. As a result, we found an acceptable difference between before and after scoring of the validated questionaries and most of the patients declerated the results good / very good.
Conclusion: Although there isn’t any published study about intravaginal COG thread applications in literature yet and we could not have enough number of patients, most of the women included in our study declerated that they were satisfied from the results. We believe that intravaginal thread applications can be an alternative to other non-surgical or surgical vaginal tightening and therapeutic SUI methods in future.
