Male blepharoplasty

Objectives: Asian has the largest population in the world. As the Asia economy continues growing, the cosmetic market is booming. Blepharoplasty is the top cosmetic operative procedure in Asia, thus, knowing how to perform blepharoplasty for Asians is important. Blepharoplasty is easy to learn, but hard to master. The male blepharoplasty has some different points from female blepharoplasty. Male patients tend to have a natural, rugged, masculine appearance, and a non-operated look. Many older Asian men even only requested to remove the redundant skin without double fold formation

Introduction: So, in this lecture, I am going to talk about the anatomic difference between Asian and Western patients. I will also show surgical tips for some Asia patient groups including (1) Young patients without double fold, either using the suture method, partial incision method, or open method. (2) How to manage asymmetry of multiple fold patients (3) How to treat aging dermatochalasis. Ptosis is a disease condition and deserved another special lecture, and will not discuss in this lecture.

Periorbital rejuvenation: choosing the right options

Objectives: The objective of this presentation is to put forth a simplistic decision-making approach to periorbital rejuvenation

Introduction: Periorbital region has complex aging changes, that affect the skin, soft tissue, and bony anatomy. The upper eyelid, lower eyelid, and eyebrow region is complex in its anatomy and functions. Rejuvenation in this area is critical since vision is a special function that has to be preserved.

Materials / method: Several upper and lower eyelid rejuvenation scenarios would be discussed in simple language of Hills and Valleys. Standard treatment plans for each would be discussed.

Results: The simplistic approach to upper and lower eyelid rejuvenation would enable an aesthetician to take easy decisions for rejuvenation on this region.

Conclusion: The simple Hill-Valley approach to periorbital rejuvenation would provide an objective treatment plan for the novice aesthetician, and the experienced.

Lower blepharoplasty in the Oriental patient: pearls and pitfalls

Objectives: The author provides a brief discourse on assessment of the lower eyelid in the Oriental patient and procedural selection for lower eyelid rejuvenation.

Introduction: It is often said that the eyes are the windows to the soul. Not surprisingly, lower blepharoplasty is one of the most common aesthetic surgeries in aging Oriental patients. Lower blepharoplasty has unique challenges in the Oriental patient due to distinct anatomical features. Appropriate assessment and procedural selection permits one to achieve good results while minimizing complications.

Materials / method: The author provides a brief outline of assessment of the lower eyelid region and the various techniques utilized for lower blepharoplasty.

Results: As above

Conclusion: Lower blepharoplasty is a challenging and rewarding procedure that has a profound effect in rejuvenation of the periorbital region. Intimate knowledge of anatomy and careful assessment permits one to select the appropriate procedure tailored to the individual patient.
