Objectives: This review aims to present and synthesize all available regenerative therapies and data (safety, efficacy, Evidence Based Medicine, adverse events…) regarding the application of these approaches for the restoration and the treatment of vulvo-vaginal disorders.
Introduction: The interest of the use of regenerative medicine as well as lasers, platelets rich plasma (PRP) and hyaluronic acid (HA) as a non-hormonal option for the treatment of vulvovaginal disorders has increased.
Materials / method: Six electronic databases (Medline “PubMed”, Google Scholar, Scopus, Web of Science, Cochrane Library and clinical trials.gov) were searched systematically for record from 1998 to date. The following key words were used in various combinations to select the relevant articles: “laser, laser therapy, low-level laser therapy, LLLT, vaginal, genitourinary syndrome of menopause, vulvovaginal atrophy, radiofrequency, lichen sclerosus, vulva, vaginal rejuvenation, injectable, platelet rich plasma, hyaluronic acid, energy-based device, vaginal dryness, stress urinary incontinence, women incontinence,
Results: Data were extracted from the included studies and assessed for validity. Seventy-three studies have been reviewed concerning laser therapy and vaginal including 18 studies on laser therapy and lichen sclerosus and one study on HIFU. Eight studies reported hyaluronic injections and 15 studies about PRP injections.
Conclusion: The methodological quality of most included studies was low with level of evidence (IIb and III) Higher quality of evidence from randomized controlled trials is required to establish the efficacy of these minimally therapies in the management of vulvo-vaginl disorders
