Objectives: Highlight the foundation of the Arab Association for Hair restoration in 2018 and its vision and mission

Introduction: In September 2018 the Aesthetic Academy of Egypt conducted an 8 hours instructional course on hair transplantation in collaboration with the International Society for Hair Restoration Surgery (ISHRS) . That was the first time for the ISHRS to have a foot step in the MENA region ( middle east and north Africa) . With more than 60 attendees and 6 international speaker the course was a real success and the Arab Association for Hair Transplantation ( AAHT ) was inaugurated during the course. In November 2018 the AAHT was accepted in the Global Council of the ISHRS,

Materials / method: The AAHT aims at increasing the public awareness about hair transplantation surgery and spreading the best know how between its members

Results: The AAHT will do that through regular workshops and seminars in collaboration with the ISHRS

Conclusion: It will be a great chance to join the AAHT in the MENA region

Objectives: The complications after follicular units transplantation in hair restoration surgery are fortunately avoidable. The objective of this presentation is to give guidelines to avoid and manage them.

Introduction: the demand for hair restoration surgery has increased after the follicular units concept was in vogue few years ago as the results became more natural and more easthetically accepted. The FUs can be obtained either by direct extraction (FUE) or by slicing them under magnification from a strip (FUT). Both techniques has its pros and cons. However teh complications are not uncommon but fortunately are avoidable.

Materials / method: the complications will be explored and a guidelin protocol will be presented for how to avoid and manage them.

Results: Results for managing the follicular units transplantation will be shown.

Conclusion: Hair transplantation surgery is a low risk job and should be a safe one. Possible complications are avoidable and manageable.

Objectives: The unshaven strip follicular unit transplants (FUT-FUL) or the follicular unit extraction (FUE) are indicated according that the hair curl increases the risk of transection during donor harvesting.

Introduction: The male and female Afro-American alopecia evolution and the donor hair area capacity are evaluated with the multifactorial classification and the digital phototrichogram. Hair restoration should be tailored to the individual's needs.

Materials / method: The multifactorial classification and the digital phototrichogram (Trichoscale®) calculate precisely the capacity of the donor area.

3 procedures of hair transplantation are currently available:
- The Follicular Unit Transplantation (FUT): previous shaving. A strip is segmented and provide 1-3 hair FUT.

- The Follicular Unit Long Hair (FUL): no previous shaving. Long hairs grafts are harvested with a similar strip segmented onto 1-3 hair FUL.

- The follicular unit extraction (FUE), no previous shaving, we take care about the transection of the curl hair follicles during harvesting

Results: Traction alopecia without any spontaneous regrowth is the most common female Afro-American alopecia complaint Male androgenetic alopecia is the other indication.
The advantages of the FUL procedure are numerous. The donor area is unshaved and patient scabs of the recipient are hidden by the long hair. For the surgeon, the benefits are a better evaluation of the orientation and the obliquity of transplanted hairs.
African potential problems include keloid formation, hypertrophic scarring, hypopigmentation, and hyperpigmentation.

Conclusion: The method of choice of hair transplantation for Afro-American is the follicular unit strip segmentation (FUL or FUT). In some male alopecia the FUE is selected. This kind of treatment is a good solution for an aesthetic and definitive correction of male and female Afro-American alopecia according to the precise evaluation of the digital phototrichogram and the multifactorial classification.
