Objectives: Identify pigmentary complications after laser use

Manage postinflammatory hyperpigmentation and hypochromia
Introduction: Post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation or hypopigmentation is a distressing situation having a negative impact on quality of life.
Pigmentary disorders, after esthetic laser procedures are often encountered when working on dark skinned patients and even on fair skin.
Materials / method: Through retrospective analysis of medical records during the last 5 years, of Patients under laser treatment for: acne scars, antiaging, stretch marks, hair removal
Medical records of pigmentary changes in an outpatient laser dermatology clinic in Tunisia.
Lasers used were: ablative CO2 laser (continuous and fractionted), Qswitched lasers, Alexandrite LP laser and LP Nd:Yag laser.
We have collected and photographied complications and the outcome of theses side effects, until resolution
Results: Postinflammatory hyperpigmentation was the most common side effect, succeeding to fractional CO2 laser, Q-switched laser for stretch marks, and to alexandrite laser hair removal. The pigmentation disappeared after an average of 2 months, with compleate healing.
Trasitory hypochromia was noticed after alexandrite hair removal on tanned skin.
Conclusion: We will discuss during this presentation, what are the preventive measures to avoid such complications, and how to manage pigmentary changes from the selection of the appropriate device and the right treatment parameters to the specified condition.
