Objectives: New treatment protocols with PRP for hair loss are focused on telogen effluvium, female androgenetic alopecia, alopecia areata and frontal fibrosing alopecia. Reports suggest benefit of PRP treatment for seborrheic dermatitis and other scarring alopecias. For optimal results, PRP is used in combination therapies. In this presentation, we will share our practical approach and useful protocols with PRP used to treat hair loss. Our results show increased follicular hair density, sheen and lustr, longer anagen phase, reduced catagen and hair shedding.
Introduction: Platelet-rich plasma (PRP) is an autologous plasma product with concentration of platelets 3 to 7 times above the physiological levels. It is obtained by centrifugation of autologous blood before the procedure.
Materials / method: PRP includes bioactive molecules such as chemokines, cytokines, and growth factors, which are able to stimulate cellular proliferation, differentiation, neoangiogenesis, activating fibroblasts and synthesizing collagen. These properties make PRP an attractive option for hair regeneration. Adding to the popularity of use of PRP is that it has a relatively low side effect profile.
Results: When it comes to hair restoration, new treatment protocols with PRP are focused on telogen effluvium, androgenetic alopecia (mainly female), alopecia areata and frontal fibrosing alopecia. Some reports suggest benefit of the PRP treatment for seborrheic dermatitis and other cicatricial alopecias.
Conclusion: For optimal results, PRP can be used in combination therapies. In this presentation, we will share our practical approach and useful protocols with PRP used to treat hair loss in non-scarring and scarring alopecias. Our results show that PRP increases follicular hair density, reduces the catagen loss.
