Dr Alfredo Hoyos is a Board Certified Plastic Surgeon, based in his hometown of Bogota, Colombia, and a Scientific Secretary for the upcoming IMCAS Americas 2018.
On 17 January 2018, Dr Hoyos took part in the first IMCAS Academy webinar focused on buttock augmentation, Buttock augmentation – make your practice fit and safe for the new boom surgery. The IMCAS Academy asked Dr Hoyos a few questions on this theme.
1. Why do you think that buttock augmentation has become the new ‘boom surgery’?
The ideal female body has a cultural and timing variation. The current ideal is related to a very low waist-hip ratio. The procedure has become safer and the current techniques means that we can achieve a natural and sexy gluteal area.
2. Do you think that the increase in buttock augmentations is a global trend, or mostly centered in the Americas?
Through social media, body tendencies and trends can be spread all around the world instantly. However, there are also strong cultural ideas that still isolate and soften the global tendencies.
To talk about gluteal enhancement, it is absolutely necessary to talk about safety.
3. What advice would you give to physicians who are interested in providing buttock augmentation in their practices?
My main piece of advice is that surgeons must know buttock anatomy, and must have a thorough understanding all the safety recommendations to avoid issues, before undertaking buttock augmentation in their practices.
4. You will be discussing the safety of buttock enhancement. Can you give us a small insight into some of the safety concerns physicians should be aware of?
To talk about gluteal enhancement, it is absolutely necessary to talk about safety. The different types of approaches, instruments and techniques are some of the defining factors to avoid embolic complications.
5. In March IMCAS is heading to your home of Colombia for the first time for IMCAS Americas 2018. What does it mean to have a congress like IMCAS in Colombia?
Having IMCAS in Colombia is an outstanding opportunity to share all the knowledge and expertise of the Colombian plastic and aesthetic community.
6. You are one of the Scientific Secretaries for IMCAS Americas 2018. What can we expect at this congress?
Colombia is in the top 10 countries in the world, recognized for quality and volume of aesthetic procedures. Our large experience and expertise in safety and techniques will amaze the participants.
IMCAS Americas 2018 is an outstanding opportunity to share the knowledge of the Colombian aesthetic community.
7. What themes do you think will be of particular interest to the participants from the Americas?
I think the participants from the Americas will be interested in body contouring, gluteal and breast augmentations, and non-invasive technologies.
8. Can you give us a hint into what you will be speaking about at IMCAS Americas 2018?
We will be speaking about the next step in high definition surgery, safety and new technologies.
