Laurent Brones, Business Development Manager at Symatese, France, reveals the latest market data for different aesthetic treatments.

Lectures are performed during the IMCAS ASIA TRIBUNE regarding the injectable market, which is the largest market segment in aesthetics, valued at USD 3,1 billion, followed by the laser & EBD market valued at USD 2,4 billion worldwide (source: Medical Insight). Note that the cosmeuceutical and breast implant markets respectively represent USD 1,7 and 1,1 billion.

Sana Siddiqui Syed, Director Global Consulting Services at DRG presents the latest data on the injectable market (toxins and dermal fillers).

Facial injectables

The global facial injectables market is booming and massive growth in the Asia-Pacific region is a substantial contributor to this industry-wide success. APAC now represents 31% of this market and will grow faster than other territories to achieve 39% of the worldwide market while the current (USD 1,7 billion in 2020) biggest North American territory will decrease from 43% to 39%. The reasons for this booming of the APAC market are an underpenetrated market compared to other territories – as only 0,3% access treatments while in Europe for example 1,9% perform treatment – and the fact that more young patients are seeking anti-aging techniques. The biggest countries in descending order for APAC are China, Japan, Korea, Australia, India and Taiwan. The market barriers include stricter and lengthy regulatory approval processes in north Asian countries and Australia, and counterfeits products, which also affect the image of those treatments and high procedure costs.

Laser & EBD market

Robert Ruck, Executive Vice President, APAC at SYNERON CANDELA presents the latest data on the laser & EBD market. APAC is experiencing the biggest growth at +13% per year, whereas other territories like EU or North America grow at +10%. APAC is an heterogenic area where product registration, skin types and economy vary per country, consequently making APAC a challenging territory. Foreign exchange and copycats also affect this market. Regarding the most popular aesthetic treatments, Hair Removal is still going strong while Body Shape is continuously getting more and more interest together with anti-aging treatments.

According to the IMCAS INDUSTRY TRIBUNE market analysis performed during the last IMCAS congress in January, Injectable, laser & EBD, cosmeceuticals and breast implants respectively represent 53%, 25%, 17%, 5% of the total APAC market, demonstrating the success of the products and the high potential for breast augmentation procedures and the development of more invasive techniques.
