Ian MARLOW

Scientific Adviser – Claims Support (Walgreens Boots Alliance). Graduating with a degree in Human Biology, Ian has been at the heart of Boots’ claims support function for over 35 years. Starting with hands-on experience of testing skincare and suncare products, Ian expanded Boots testing into the evaluation of dental products, which included a 5 year stint at the University of Sheffield leading a team of academic and Industrial scientists. Ian has also managed the Boots Testing capability for over 10 years, with its mix of testing in-house and through contract testing facilities. In his current role, as Scientific Adviser for Claims Support, he is responsible for Boots policies and technical standards for claims support, the interpretation of supporting data and the approval of claims across the Boots portfolio of cosmetic products. Alongside the major advances in cosmetic formulations, with biological knowledge informing product design, has been a parallel evolution in the methods used to assess performance of those formulations, and Ian is responsible for ensuring that new methods are developed and validated to a high scientific standards.
