Laura DUERKSEN

Laura is the executive director of Hacking Medicine Institute (HMi), an organization that orchestrates innovation initiatives around the world and studies trends in innovation and healthcare. HMi is the sister organization to MIT Hacking Medicine, and was spun out from this student group in 2015. HMi programming includes Hacking Dermatology, which launched in 2019, in partnership with Advancing Innovation in Dermatology and LEO Science + Tech Hub. Currently, Laura is also a visiting researcher with the Autonomous University of Madrid Medical School, Department of Public Health, and is working on a book on the topic of health innovation, creativity, and the transformation of early stage ideas to implementation in medicine. Previously, Laura has taught Intrapreneurship for Healthcare at Harvard Medical School's Women's Leadership Program. Laura has over a decade of non profit management and fundraising experience at a variety of arts, cultural, and scientific organizations. She holds degrees from the University of Virginia and Simmons College and a certificate from the University of Denver.
