Objectives: The primary objective was to evaluate the psychological impact for the patient in terms of improvement of quality of life for the patient. The secondary objectives were to evaluate the feasibility of the treatment, the ultrasound changes in the tissues following the injections, and the safety of the procedure, particularly in terms of vascularity. Here are preliminary results.
Introduction: The management of cleft lip is essentially surgical and mostly performed in childhood to allow functional and aesthetic improvements.
Aesthetic sequelae may persist for which surgery is not appropriate. The contribution of other techniques such as hyaluronic acid injections or laser is undeniable.
However, the accessibility of these techniques is sometimes difficult for patients for reasons of availability or simply cost.
Materials / method: Eight patients were included from January 2021 to March 2022. The management concerned only the labial aesthetic consequences. All had aesthetic sequelae of cleft lip despite one or more surgical management.
Exclusion criteria were autoimmune disease or active inflammation, infection in the area, or surgery in the area in the month before or planned for the month after the procedure.
The products used were Galderma Restylane KYSSE and Galderma Restylane Classic. Injections were performed with 25 G 38 mm and 50 mm cannula and 30 G needle.
Several sessions of injections were performed if necess
Results: The immediate tolerance was excellent.
The POSAS score scales we significatively decreased from 26.5 to 13.3/60 (p=0.0015).
The improvement in quality of life was significant with scores decreased from 13.6 to 4/30 (p=0.0022).
No adverse event was noted apart from a classic post-procedure edema of an average duration of 2 days.
No severe adverse events were noted. No arterial disturbances were noted during the procedures.
Conclusion: This cohort confirms the interest of hyaluronic acid injections in the management of aesthetic sequelae of cleft lip. Patient satisfaction is excellent and the aesthetic improvement is statistically significant. The use of the cannula and the realization of an echo-doppler before and after the procedure allow to secure these injections.
