Objectives: 1: Assess the upper eye lid and the position of the eyebrow
2: Consider a minimally invasive brow lifting and a blepharoplasty
3: Perform the brow lifting with an anatomic suture fixation
Introduction: A common challenge encountered in upper eyelid surgery is the neglect of addressing eyebrow positioning, which significantly influences the aesthetic outcome. Achieving an anatomically correct eyebrow position is crucial for an aesthetically pleasing overall result. Various methods for eyebrow lifting, such as endoscopic or open forehead lifts, are often intricate or yield unsatisfactory long-term results marked by visible scarring. In response, we have developed a straightforward technique for eyebrow lifting, leading to sustained elevation in both the medial and lateral aspects.
Materials / method: The technique relies on anatomical fixation of the eyebrow using a 3.0 FiberWire suture with a small curved needle and high abrasion stability and lubricity. The threads can be introduced with a cannula under local anesthesia, at an average insertion time of approximately 20 minutes for both eyebrows. This innovative minimally-invasive method is presented in the lecture by means of a video demonstration.
Results: In our initial case series, 10 male and 12 female patients were treated. At 6 and 12 months follow-up, the position of the eyebrow was stable in all patients. In one patient, a medial suture had to be removed after 6 weeks due to overcorrection. Wound healing disorders, scarring, hematoma, infections, or other complications did not occur. All patients were highly satisfied with the treatment results.
Conclusion: Our innovative method is simple, effective, and can be learned easily. Moreover, this minimally invasive technique is associated with a short recovery time, inconspicuous scarring, stable long-term results, and offers the possibility of later corrections if required.
