Dr Alexandra Mora Hernandez is an otolaryngologist and facial plastic surgeon based in Bogota, Colombia. Her practice emphasizes the use of lasers, cosmeceuticals and non-invasive rejuvenation medicine. A national and international lecturer on facial plastic surgery, health, beauty, wellness and the future of facial rejuvenation, she is the past president of the Colombian Society of Facial Plastic Surgery and Rhinology (SCCPFR) as well as a representative for Colombia of the Society for Worldwide Medical Exchange.

The IMCAS Editorial Team invited her for an interview, just in time for the upcoming IMCAS Americas 2019 from August 1 to 3 in Cartagena de Indias, Colombia.

1. How long have you been practicing in your field?

I've been in my private practice for over 25 years.

2. What are some of the developments that took place in your field in the last year?

There has been a novel evolution in facial sculpture with collagen stimulators, also many advancements in combined procedures (surgical and non-surgical) for facial rejuvenation.

I have also seen advancements in aesthetic and functional rhinoplasty that adapts to the current trend of minimally invasive operations with short recovery time. Through a closed rhinoplasty, we can rearrange, resect, sculpt, reshape and modify the cartilage and the bone to improve the aesthetic and functional appearance of the nose, harmonizing it with the other facial structures.

3. What are some of the key points that will be discussed at your sessions?

I will talk about the pros and cons of rhino-modelling, radiosurgery blepharoplasty, non-surgical neck and décolleté rejuvenation.

4. And what would you like the attendees to remember after the course?

The different options we have to offer to our patients, both minimally invasive and surgical. Mastering every procedure perfectly is not really the ultimate learning objective, rather it is really about broadening one’s “information library” and really understanding the treatment options to make sound judgements and give evidence-based advice to patients.

5. How can the different specialties benefit from your sessions?

It is important to always hear the concepts of all the different specialties so that you can always make the best decision when treating patients. One thing we learn from medical conferences like IMCAS is that for the best results, all specialties work in cooperation, and it’s crucial to gain viewpoints from various angles and experts.

6. In general, what do your patients yearn from procedures?

I believe they are on a quest for youth and beauty, but my patients today seek results that are more harmonic and natural.
