Post Bariatric Surgery in 10 questions

In recent days weight loss surgeries are performed frequently and after that some aesthetic problems may occur with the weight loss. After losing 70 pounds recently, I examined my patient who came to me for sagging problems. She asked me a lot of questions and I gathered these questions for you. Now I'm going to tell you about these 10 questions.

Q#1 What is post bariatric surgery?

One side effect of successful weight loss with bariatric surgeries is excess skin. After massive weight loss, the skin may hang loosely from the body, making people feel uncomfortable or self-conscious. The plastic surgery procedures which is performed for the sagging skin is called post bariatric surgery.

Q#2 What are the wide range of body contouring surgeries including:

Tummy tucks

Thigh lifts
Arm lifts
Buttock lifts and reshaping

Face and neck lifts

Q#3 Who can get help from post bariatric surgery?

Anyone who has lost weight and now has fixed weight, has deformation in the body and who has aesthetic concerns and health problems can have these operations.

Q#4 What are the health problems that cause sagging skin?

My patients mostly suffer from health problems such as rash, lack of mobility due to the weight of the skin. Living with a sagging skin brings a highly uncomfortable life and of course psychological problems.

Q#5 From which area to start sagging surgery and all can be done in and session?

The important thing here is the comfort of the patient in the healing process. For this reason, the most comfortable way to improve, according to which planning is done. For example, we often try to do more than 3 surgeries in the same operation. Chest, arm lift and tummy tuck can be done together. Leg lift and liposuction can be performed in a session. This leads to the patient's current sagging and the area in which she/he wants to be corrected. Individual planning should be done. Because the healing process is very important.

Q#6 How is the recovery period?

It depends on the surgeries performed. We would like to have our guests for 2-3 days and it is necessary to have meticulous care until 10 days. Recovery occurs within 2-3 weeks.

Q#7 Are they painful operations?

This is completely dependent on the pain threshold of the patient, but not easy surgeries. This also varies according to the excess of the skin removed from the body and the incisions made. With the help of painkillers, the process is extremely easy.

Q#8 How much scar remains in these surgeries?

First of all, you have to decide. A non-aesthetic image that stands like a drooping, curled balloon? Or is it a fit image with traces? Not dealing with rashes, shorts or hanging blouses? Or is it scary, but with the aesthetic image of being weakened and enjoying life? If you say no, I do not want to trace, then you should think again. In all of these operations, the incision is made, but the incisions will remain silky over time.

Q#9 Where are the incisions made?

Most incisions are attempted to hide in blind areas where there are no visible areas. An incision is made in such a way that the abdomen is placed under tension and back strain. In the face and neck stretching is done in the hairy tissue and behind the ear.
