Check out the upcoming work of Dr. Amin Kalaaji, an established surgeon in the IMCAS community, and his new book Plastic and Aesthetic Regenerative Surgery and Fat Grafting: Clinical Application and Operative Techniques. The all-encompassing aesthetic publication includes 117 chapters, approximately 1625 educational figures, and 131 videoclips to proudly represent the knowledge and expertise of 242 authors.

Dr. Amin Kalaaji MD PhD is a board-certified plastic surgeon from Oslo Norway who has more than 20 years experience with aesthetic surgery. With primary interests in regenerative surgery and fat crafting, he also maintains significant experience in rhinoplasty, intimate surgery, and BBL and breast augmentation in fat conversion and hybrid augmentation (in addition to traditional breast and face). He also holds a particular interest in the maintenance and quality of life after aesthetic surgery for nose, breast, and intimate surgery.

A previously published author in several, renewed international high impact journals, Dr. Kalaaji is excited to announce the release of his most recent book: “Plastic and Aesthetic Regenerative Surgery and Fat Grafting: Clinical Application and Operative Techniques,” with publisher Springer Nature. Below he shares some of the highlights and insight of his recent work:

What do you find especially compelling about the findings presented in your upcoming book Plastic and Aesthetic Regenerative Surgery and Fat Grafting?

“What is so interesting in my coming book is the major innovations that have extended from top to toe, from the hair down to the foot—literally. These innovations are explored through the combination of basic scientific research, the clinical application, and operation techniques.

The focus of this book was its educational value to provide a good educational opportunity to our readers. The book includes as many figures as possible, resulting in almost 1650 figures in just 2000 pages and about 150 video clips. There are also 13 introductory sections on the history of regenerative surgery, fat grafting, basic research, stem cells, as well as general principles about fat grafting as processing methods and other uses of fat grafting in reconstruction areas of both the face and body.

We then continue anatomically with assigned areas from the hair and downwards in combination with structural chapters. The chapters are structured in materials & methods, and results. In this way I think the whole book enhances the value of education as each chapter represents a research project, clinical study, or value of a published article in both young and established authors. These chapters took around four revisions, so it was a thorough process with all 242 authors, including myself.

I have contributed to seven main chapters on chin argumentation with fat and three chapters about breast (including new trends in breast surgery hybrid and the conversion, a comparison between processing methods and my own technique in inverted nipples correction). Additionally, I contributed to the section on intimate rejuvenation surgery and BBL, and I collaborated on a chapter surrounding the role of the surgery assistants in operation theater, which not a commonly discusses topic.”

What are some of the surgical and clinical areas you feel are best explored in this book?

“As a matter of fact, the aim of the entire book is to give an educational value and practical guidance for new, educated surgeons and also more specialized and well-experienced surgeons. The combination of well-known surgeons and younger very motivated colleagues has made this book very interesting.

The clinical part begins with general principles about fat grafting ; following with reconstruction areas in the treatment of wounds and burns, 2 chapters about hair regeneration, 4 chapters on skin, 14 chapters with the face covering the areas of aesthetic and also reconstructive indications, and also anatomy to be explored from the beginning. The breast has almost 25 chapters are about Aesthetic breast and breast reconstruction—equally distributed. Plus, the use of loops with fat grafting chapters are written by many authors from their own methods and safety practices of fat rafting in a prospective study.

Continuing down to body contouring and BBL, around 10 chapters of intimate genital surgery both female and male. The upper extremity has some amazing chapters about the duputryne contracture with fat graft and hands aesthetic use for fat.

The book finishes with lower extremity about foot pad syndrome treatment and leg augmentation.”

What information and technique do you hope physicians will take from engaging with the surgical material presented in your book?

“A great question, what is expected for our colleagues to get from the book’s practical guidance is an understanding of the topics and a practical guidance on how to do them, why to do them, and the results and complications in relating chapters. All chapters will guide you how to understand the technique and how to do it. Though the title is how to use regenerative surgery and fat grafting, the chapters were expanded to cover the whole procedure (not only the fat grafting part). If we are talking, for example, about fat grafting to the breast in mastopexy, the whole technique of mastopexy is explained in detail to provide a comprehensive surgical example.

The aim within all 2000 pages among 117 chi and 242 authors was to enhance, educate, and improve the knowledge of not only regenerative surgery and fat grafting but also in plastic and reconstructive and aesthetic surgery. In addition, adjuvant specialties such as researchers in aesthetic medicine, facial surgeons, ENT, dermatologists, orthopedists, and many others can also benefit largely from the book. This book us is both valuable and relevant if you are medical student, resident, specialist, or even an experienced surgeon.”
