Global hair investigations before a hair transplantation
Objectives: Before doing a hair transplantation we need to confirm the clinical diagnosis and to collect all the hair and scalp parameters which allow to select one or various adequate procedures for each individual case.
Introduction: The goal of a hair transplantation is not only immediate satisfaction of your patient but to get a precise diagnosis of this male or female androgenetic alopecia or cicatricial alopecia, and a good understanding of his baldness evolution with a follow-up after a FUE or FUT hair transplant.
Materials / method: - Digital trichoscopy (Tricholab) for a careful diagnosis of the alopecia: androgenetic alopecia, telogen effluvium or cicatricial alopecia
- Digital phototrichogram (Trichoscale) for a precise evaluation of hair and scalp parameters to calculate the number of hair and follicular unit available: hair and follicular unit density, hair caliber…
- Multifactorial classification for a measurement of bald and hairy areas
- Sometimes a microbiopsy for histological findings
Results: For Hair transplantation the goal is to get for each male and female candidate a precise hair transplant planning for a FUE motor punch harvesting with or without shaving or for FUT-FUL long hair strip procedure without shaving
Conclusion: The expected results depend on the donor area quality and capacity, the extent of the recipient area, the choice of the hair transplant technique, the aesthetic desire of the patient and the potential baldness evolution.
To get the best improvement with hair transplantation it is essential to handle all the procedures and to select them according to a precise individual hair and scalp check-up and an appropriate treatment plan.
