The Efficacy of the Combination of Fractional Picosecond Laser and Plant-derived Stem Cell Exosomes for Male Androgenetic Alopecia (AGA) Treatment
Objectives: Objective: To assess the combined efficacy of Fractional Picosecond Laser (FPL) and plant-derived stem cell exosome therapy for male Androgenetic Alopecia (AGA) treatment.
Introduction: Exosomes play a pivotal role in hair morphogenesis and regeneration, offering novel avenues for alopecia treatments. Particularly, exosomes derived from stem cells exhibit properties that can stimulate hair follicle development and cycling.
Materials / method: This was a pilot study in 5 male participants treated with a 1064-nm FPL for mild-to-moderate AGA and then were applied with topical exosomes. The patients underwent 5 treatments at 4-week intervals, followed by a 4-week post-procedure assessment. Expert panel assessment score and patient satisfaction was assessed using a 7-point scale. Dermoscopic analysis was conducted to evaluate hair shafts. Adverse effects were also monitored.
Results: Significant clinical improvement in hair density and thickness was observed from 1 to 6 months post-treatment, with notable increases in expert panel assessment scores and patient satisfaction. Minimal adverse effects were reported, resolving swiftly. Dermoscopic analysis confirmed the safety of the treatment, showing minimal petechiae without hair shaft damage.
Conclusion: The study underscores the potential of combining 1064-nm FPL with topical plant-derived stem cell exosomes in promoting hair regrowth in male AGA. These findings highlight the role of exosomes in hair follicle development and regeneration, encouraging further research to optimize this promising treatment approach.
