Microneedle radiofrequency for acne scars : Patient's perspective
Objectives: 1)To evaluate the efficacy of fractional microneedle radiofrequency for acne scars
2)To record the feedback of patients who have undergone the microneedle radiofrequency procedure
Introduction: Microneedle radiofrequency for acne scars has become one of the popular treatments of choice for acne scars amongst patients . Points in favour of the procedure are mostly lesser downtime & efficacy. But there are added benefits to the patients as well. Here we asses the clinical efficacy of the MNRF procedure for acne scars and also bring forward the patients' perspective in the form of a post treatment questionairre.
Materials / method: A group of 23 patients were recruited for the study. They were to be given four sessions of micro needle radiofrequency , four weeks apart . Patients were assesed for scar grading three months after the final session. At the same time , a questionairre was handed over to the patients where they shared their experience objectively
Results: 21 patients completed four sessions. Mild adverse effects recorded were pain , erythema , edema and post inflammatory hyperpigmentation ; which were self limiting. Overall improvement by at least one grade was seen in 82% patients. Improvement in scars could be appreciated as early as post one month follow up.The objective questionairre revealed high satisfaction rate among patients.
Conclusion: Microneedle radiofrequency is a safe well tolerated and efficacious procedure for acne scars in Indian skin .
