Efficacy and safety of picoseconds laser 1,064 nm in treatment of periorbital hyper melanosis in Fitzpatrick skin type IV
Objectives: To show the efficacy and safety of Picosecond laser in the treatment of peri-orbital hypermelanosis.
Introduction: Periorbital Hyperpigmentation (POH), alternatively known as periorbital melanosis, periocular pigmentation, dark circles, dark rings, or simply under-eye circles, presents a captivating enigma within the world of dermatology and aesthetics. Picosecond lasers are cutting-edge tools in modern dermatology, revolutionizing the way we address various skin concerns.
Materials / method: The study involved twenty female subjects, aged between 18 and 40 years. Each participant exhibited periorbital melanosis, as confirmed through dermoscopic examination to exclude other potential causes of dark circles Each patient undergoes a series of four treatment sessions, spaced one month apart. The treatment itself involves the use of a 1,064 nm Nd:YAG laser with a zoom handpiece of 5-6mm with fluence of 1.1J/cm and 3 passes where applied.
Results: After undergoing the prescribed treatment protocol, patients exhibited varying degrees of improvement in their periorbital melanosis.
A comprehensive analysis of the before-and-after photographs revealed noticeable changes in pigmentation and skin texture.
Feedback from the participants indicated a high level of satisfaction with the treatment outcomes.
Comparative analysis of photographs taken before treatment initiation and two months after the final session revealed statistically significant changes.
The photographs consistently demonstrated a decrease in periorbital melanosis severity.
Conclusion: The Picosecond Nd:YAG laser proves to be both highly effective and safe for the treatment of periocular hyperpigmentation. The outcomes of this study underscore its potential as a valuable option for addressing infraorbital pigmentation concerns.
However, it's important to acknowledge that while picosecond lasers show promise in treating such pigmentation, further research is essential. Long-term efficacy, safety considerations across diverse skin types, and the potential for any adverse effects require thorough investigation to provide a comprehensive understanding of this treatment.
