Practical aspects of laser physics and laser tissue interactions
Objectives: Different types of Lasers have been used to treat and improve variable skin lesions and conditions for over 20 years now. Variable success rates and complications have been reported with different laser types used for the different applications in the field of Dermatology.
Introduction: Today, a clear understanding of the basic Laser physics, Laser tissue interactions allows us to determine the best wavelength to be used for different applications, how to choose the appropriate pulse duration which allows us to achieve high efficiency with the least incidence of side effects, in addition to, understanding the reasons behind the complications encountered with the use of lasers and how to avoid them.
Conclusion: Other issues of controversy will be discussed in the review such as the different methods of skin cooling in conjunction with laser treatment, the difference between the laser light and the Intense Pulsed Light (IPL). The last point of the review will be dealing with how to get the most accurate comparative studies for different types of lasers used for the same application.
