Objectives: To describe the characteristics of Asian nose and the common indications for treatment
Identify challenges in Nose augmentation
Enumerate and explain the strategies to have safe and improved outcomes
Introduction: Asian noses have a specific morphology and goals of augmentation usually involve projection of dorsum and tip. Rhinoplasty both surgical and non-surgical has become really popular in Asia. Under non-surgical option, fillers and threads are two options. With the scare of vascular compromise and blindness from nose fillers, threads have become a more preferred alternative. Threads however, may pose some challenges including complications and unsatisfactory outcomes. This presentation aims to provide some practical tips on how to overcome these challenges.
Materials / method: Anatomy of the nose and its relevance to thread techniques will be discussed. Thread design and composition will also be shown. Key strategies in technique will also be presented through a video of the procedures. Sample before and after photos of patients will be included in the presentation.
Conclusion: Knowledge of anatomy, having a good quality thread material and proper placement of threads is vital to prevent serious complications. Correct assessment, proper technique, and an artistic touch would then contribute to better outcomes. Patient satisfaction is key and the goals of the treatment should align with the patient's desires.
