Chemical peels for scalp and hair disorders
Objectives: Chemical peels are one of the most commonly used cosmetic treatments in clinical practice. However, their use for scalp and hair is rarely reported. In this presentation, we introduce the benefits of the application of chemical peels for the scalp and hair conditions, and discuss the potential role of superficial chemical peels to fill in an important therapeutic and beautification need.
Introduction: It is known that chemical peels cause controlled wounding to the epidermal or/and the dermal layer of the skin. This stimulates new tissue development, removes hyperkeratosis, and improves circulation. Both light and medium peels can be used for scalp and hair therapy. In our practice we have seen that acids like mandelic, glycolic, salicylic, lactic have proven to deliver improvement in seborrheic dermatitis, scalp psoriasis, inflammation, hair loss.
Materials / method: In this presentation we will show the technique of application (video), and focus on the use of chemical peels in our trichology practice for different hair and scalp conditions.
Results: Used properly, the superficial chemical peels have the potential to fill in an important therapeutic need in the treatment of some hair and scalp conditions.
Conclusion: In our practice, we use acids like mandelic, glycolic, salicylic, lactic to deliver improvement in seborrheic dermatitis, scalp psoriasis, inflammation and hair loss.
