Hybrid laser technology for acne scars: Is it superior over conventional therapy?
Objectives: To analyze the outcomes of Hybrid lasers in acne scar treatment
Introduction: Acne Scars pose significant challenge for therapies. The resolution of the scar is suboptimal even with combination of therapies. Hybrid lasers is being touted as one big step in achieving better results in this direction.
Materials / method: The author analysed the outcomes in 25 persons with acne scars. Hybrid Laser Combination of FrCo2 with 1570nm laser was used for 4 to 6 sessions in each person. standardized clinical photographs before and after the treatment were assessed by 2 independent physicians. Global Scale for Acne Scar Severity was used to assess the extent of the scars before the procedure NO of session were decided based on the extent of the scars . Minimum of 4 sessions were done in each case. Scar scoring was done at 2 months after the completion of all sessions. Satisfaction scores on a scale of 10 were recorded
Results: 25 cases were included in the study. average age is 32+02. Male to female ration;9;16. At 2 months after completion of treatment scar scoring has shown improvement by 2 points .
Satisfaction scores 7+2 after the procedure at 6 months
Conclusion: The Hybrid lasers seem to deliver satisfactory results for scars over the face with minimal Downtime and complications. Besides that The results seem to last for longer period. Larger comparative studies need to be done to prove its exact superiority over conventional laser technologies.
