Yellow Diode laser for Vascular lesions
Objectives: The gold standard treatment for the vascular lesions has been the Pulse Dye Laser. However, this laser is very expensive and the maintenance is very difficult. The expensive dye is a consumable and makes the treatment cost very high.
The diode lasers have revolutionised the l;aser worrld by their abilty to produce all kinds of wave lengths.
We have been working on a diode yellow laser for vascular lesions and have got quite gratifying results
Introduction: Following lasers can be used for treating vascular lesions
532 nm KTP laser.
585 nm pulsed dye laser.
755 nm Alex laser.
1064 nm Nd : YAG laser
However, now the diode lasers that can produce any wavelength can be used for multiple indications including for thje vascular lesions
Here we use a very vascular specific wavelength of 577nm
Materials / method: A semiconductor laser converts electric energy into light energy
This happens because of the partial conduction properties of the semiconductor material
By putting specific amounts of impurities into the semiconductor material(doping) the number of negative and positive electrons can be changed
This can help us produce different wavelengths from the same semiconductor
A YELLOW laser at 577 nm, is considered the best choice for vascular treatments:
It is the OPTIMUM WAVELENGTH OF 577nm FOR SUPERIOR RESULTS
577nm matches the absorption peak of hemoglobin
577nm has 39% more blood absorption
Results: Therefore
There is more blood absorption making it more effective
Less Fluence is needed so less side effects
Less melanin absorption also ensures
less side effects particularly in darker skin
Conclusion: The yellow diode laser is a huge advancement for the treatment of the vascular lesions
A solid-state laser, low costs, easy maintenance
The older gold standard pulsed due lasers had the disadvantages of
Large devices
Very expensive machines
High recuring cost of the dye
