Skin quality redefined: the science of hydration and rejuvenation
Objectives: To redefine skin quality through a holistic, science-based approach, focusing on hydration, dermal structure, and cellular regeneration. This presentation aims to review the biological role of hyaluronic acid (HA) in skin aging and to demonstrate how non-crosslinked and minimally crosslinked HA skinboosters can improve skin quality parameters such as hydration, elasticity, radiance, and firmness.
Introduction: Skin quality is a key determinant of facial attractiveness and aging, yet it is often under-treated compared to volume loss and wrinkles. Aging processes affect the epidermis, dermis, and extracellular matrix, leading to dehydration, loss of elasticity, and impaired collagen synthesis. Hydration is not merely cosmetic but a fundamental biological factor influencing skin function and appearance.
Materials / method: This educational presentation is based on current literature, consensus guidelines, and clinical protocols using injectable hyaluronic acid skinboosters. Non-crosslinked HA with dermocomplex and minimally crosslinked HA products were reviewed. Treatment protocols, injection depths, dosing schedules, and combination approaches were discussed to optimize skin quality outcomes.
Results: Clinical evidence and published data demonstrate that injectable HA significantly improves skin hydration, elasticity, radiance, and overall skin quality. Non-crosslinked HA enhances the dermal microenvironment and cellular activity, while minimally crosslinked HA supports collagen stimulation and structural support. Combination protocols showed synergistic effects on multiple skin quality parameters.
Conclusion: Although injectable hyaluronic acid skinbooster treatments provide significant and reliable improvements in skin hydration, elasticity, and overall skin quality, optimal and long-lasting results are achieved through multiple treatment sessions and combination therapies. A multimodal approach that integrates skinboosters with other aesthetic modalities remains the gold standard for comprehensive and sustainable skin rejuvenation.
