Efficacy of non crosslinked high molecular weight hyaluronic acid for non-surgical face lift
Objectives: This study aims to check whether non crosslinked high molecular weight hyaluronic acid can cause lifting of the face when injected along the retaining facial ligaments on the lateral aspect of the face.
Introduction: Hyaluronic acid is widely used today whether as a crosslinked dermal filler or a non crosslinked skin booster. Non crosslinked Hyaluronic acid is commonly used as a skin booster, mainly for hydration. Hyaluronic acid may come in different molecular weights, each with its own indication.
Biomodulation is described as a process of modifying, regulating or influencing biological processes. High molecular weight hyaluronic acid may fall under this category because of its characteristics with lubrication, cell interaction, cell structure, anti-inflammatory and immunomodulatory effects.
Materials / method: Small amounts at .15ml of non-crosslinked high molecular weight hyaluronic acid were injected into the deep dermis on 10 points on each side of the face, mainly adjacent to the retaining ligaments with a total of 3ml of non-crosslinked hyaluronic acid. The patients were given at least 2 doses, at least 1 month apart.
Results: Photographs were taken at least 2 weeks after each session and their faces were analyzed using a medical grade skin analyzer. We notice lifting of the face and improvement in the skin texture.
Conclusion: Non crosslinked high molecular weight hyaluronic acid can cause lifting of the face when injected along the retaining facial ligaments on the lateral aspect of the face. This provides a safe alternative to cross linked hyaluronic acid fillers, threads and energy based devices.
