Non-surgical jawline contouring using a layered laser protocol in asian skin
Objectives: To evaluate the safety and clinical efficacy of a personalized layered laser protocol for non-
surgical jawline contouring in Asian skin.
Introduction: Jawline laxity is a common aesthetic concern in Asian patients due to age-related collagen
degradation and structural changes of the lower face. Thicker dermal architecture and higher
melanin content require precise, layer-specific energy delivery to achieve effective tightening
while maintaining safety. Dual-wavelength laser systems allow controlled, non-surgical jawline
remodeling through multi-depth collagen stimulation
Materials / method: Twenty-five female patients (Fitzpatrick skin types III–IV), aged 35–55 years, with mild-to-
moderate jawline laxity underwent three treatment sessions at two-week intervals. The protocol
combined Er:YAG laser for superficial and mid-dermal heating with Nd:YAG laser for deep
dermal and subdermal thermal stimulation. Clinical outcomes were assessed using three-
dimensional facial imaging, standardized photography, and a 5-point patient satisfaction scale at
baseline and three months post-treatment.
Results: Noticeable improvement in jawline definition, skin firmness, and contour sharpness was
observed at three months follow-up. Three-dimensional facial analysis demonstrated improved
lower-face contour and symmetry. Overall, 88% of patients rated their outcomes as “good” or
“excellent.” No adverse effects, pigmentary changes, or treatment downtime were reported
Conclusion: This personalized layered laser protocol is a safe and effective non-surgical approach for jawline
contouring in Asian skin. By delivering controlled thermal energy across multiple tissue depths,
the protocol achieves visible jawline remodeling with high patient satisfaction and no downtime,
making it a practical option for lower-face rejuvenation.
