Injectable skin booster : current overview of mechanism
Objectives: This session will review the mechanisms, clinical effects, and limitations of globally popular skin boosters and biostimulators, and critically analyze the current trend of exaggerated claims surrounding these treatments.
Introduction: Aging-related skin changes, such as dullness, dehydration, and loss of elasticity, significantly affect the appearance and structural integrity of the skin. Injectable “skin boosters,” which consist of various biological materials, have become increasingly popular for addressing these concerns by promoting skin rejuvenation and revitalization.
Materials / method: This presentation reviews the currently available types of skin boosters, explains their respective mechanisms of action, and summarizes their efficacy and safety profiles.
Results: Natural biopolymers used as skin boosters include hyaluronic acid, polynucleotides, collagen, acellular dermal matrix (ADM), and platelet-rich plasma. Synthetic polymers include polylactides, polycaprolactone, and polydioxanone.
Conclusion: One of the most important factors in skin booster treatment is selecting the appropriate injection layer. Understanding the mechanism of action of each product is essential for predicting its effectiveness and recognizing potential safety concerns.
