4. Explore topical and oral strategies, including skincare ingredients and supplements, that can help combat glycation and protect skin integrity.
Introduction: Glycation is a silent, intrinsic aging process that occurs when sugars bind to proteins, lipids, or nucleic acids, leading to the formation of Advanced Glycation End-products (AGEs). While often discussed in the context of diabetes and chronic disease, glycation also plays a significant role in skin aging, affecting elasticity, firmness, tone, and overall skin health.
Conclusion: Glycation is a key, but often overlooked contributor to extrinsic and intrinsic skin aging. Its ability to stiffen collagen, generate oxidative stress, and impair the skin’s repair mechanisms makes it a prime target for proactive intervention.
