Abstract

Objectives: To illustrate the effect of low-fluence Q-switched 1064nm laser in the treatment of pigmented diseases in chinese patients. Introduction: Targeting melanosome-laden melanocytes, Q-switched lasers, with various wavelengths, have advanced the management of pigmented diseases. Among all Q-switched lasers, the penetration of the QS Nd: YAG 1064nm laser is deepest, and this wavelength is more suitable for darker skin. Recently, the low-fluence 1064nm laser has been proven effective, bringing less adverse effects and better outcomes. Materials / method: Treatment parameters for the LFQS 1064nm laser were fluence of 1.9-3.0J/cm2, a spot size of 7.0-8.0mm, and a frequency of 10Hz, with clinical endpoint as moderate erythema with a few petechiae. Four patients, with CALM or nevus of Ota, were presented in this article. Results: The lesion gradually reached a clearance of more than 95% in all cases. No adverse event, such as hyperpigmentation, hypopigmentation, blister and scar, was reported. After simple application of lidocaine cream, all patients, even children, could endure the pain that laser brought. Conclusion: Low-fluence Q-switched Nd:YAG laser can be an alternative in the treatment of pigmented diseases, with amazing outcomes and less adverse effects. Moreover, compared to lasers with traditional high fluence, LFQS 1064nm laser is more comfortable and accepted, especially for children patients.
